I’ve always loved drawing and painting, ever since I was a child, and have been fortunate to have a career as a professional illustrator. Several years ago, I was introduced to pastels as a medium and became excited by the vibrancy of the pigments and the possibilities that this medium gives an artist.
The rich colors produced by clear Colorado skies, and the variety of shapes in landscapes provide an endless source of inspiration. I’m always looking for the shapes in nature that make an interesting composition. Even a simple subject, like a single tree, can make an exciting painting, filled with abstract shapes, patterns, and colors.
When I paint, I don’t try to illustrate the scene precisely. My goal is to create a feeling of the landscape and to convey the essence of the place.
