The author and poet, John O’Donohue has written “The beauty of the earth is the first beauty.” This is what I seek to capture in my paintings of the natural world. I am profoundly inspired by this beauty and find that the immediacy and richness of pastels is the perfect medium to help me explore it. I generally work from photographs, either developing a theme in a single image or combining several to work out a compelling composition. My goal is to translate the feelings I have of a place at a particular time to the viewer. I am also interested in the human form since this is what I studied in art school and hope to be exploring it in the future.
Michael Mannebach graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan with a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree. He continued his education with post graduate studies in Design and Illustration at The Center for Creative Studies, also in Detroit. Michael started his career as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator. He worked for many years in this role before deciding to pursue studies in 3-D design, which resulted in a position as an exhibit designer. Michael has always been interested in our built environment and naturally transitioned into a Kitchen & Bath Designer, his current profession. All along, Michael has been drawing and painting. He recently discovered the medium of pastels and has taken several workshops. He continues to study and paint whenever he finds the time.
