2-Day Indoor Workshop
with Lorenzo Chavez
August 23 & 24, 2019
1175 Chapel Hills Drive
Colorado Springs, CO, 80920
Concept to Completion
This 2-day indoor workshop will focus on achieving a new level of landscape painting ability, using your own photographic information and interesting design concepts. We will use our reference material to create a new and more interesting painting.
Demonstrations and critiques will be conducted as a group and on an individual basis. Plenty of personal attention is the goal of the instructor.
Lorenzo Chavez was born in New Mexico, where the striking landscapes, varied cultures and colorful history helped him develop an appreciation for art at an early age. He studied at the Colorado Institute of Art and the Art Students League of Denver. Intensive private study of the Impressionists and 19th century American and Russian painters have made him aware of the wonderful possibilities and importance of painting from life.
Since 1985, Lorenzo exhibits in national invitational exhibitions across the country, including the Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of France, Pastel Society of Spain, Artists of America, The Northwest Rendezvous Group, The Plein Air Painters of America, C.M. Russell Museum, Buffalo Bill Art Museum, Laguna Art Museum, Gilcrease Museum, Landscapes of the American West, Loveland Art Museum, Pasadena Art Museum, Autry Museum, The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, The Leigh Yawke Art Museum, Koshare Museum, A R Mitchell Museum, Albuquerque Museum, Bradford Brinton Memorial Museum and Artists of the West.
He was invited to exhibit 7 pastels at the 2010 summer Exhibition for the Society of Pastelists in France and 3 pastels at The Pastel Society of Spain. Lorenzo’s work is featured in many prominent fine art galleries and magazines, including Art of the West, Southwest Art, Pastel Journal, Art-Talk, Pratique Des Art, and American Artist. He has been cover artist for The Artist’s Magazine and the Pastel Journal.
Lorenzo’s paintings are included in several books including Pure Color: The Best of Pastel and Art Journey America, both published by North Light Books; The Plein Air Year published by Jack Richeson Books; and Colorado Landscapes.
Lorenzo is an active member of the Plein Air Painters of America, Western Rendezvous of Art, California Art club, American Impressionist Society and the Pastel Society of Spain.

We are very excited to have Radeaux of John-Deaux Art Gallery, Pueblo, CO as our juror. A veteran of many art exhibits, both as an artist and as a juror, Radeaux has owned Pueblo’s oldest gallery for over thirty-five years and has represented many of Pueblo’s leading artists.
Colorado’s diverse fauna is the inspiration for Radeaux. He spends many hours in the field studying birds and other animals. When he returns to the studio, he paints what he has seen in his unique style, a combination of detail and restraint, repetition and rhythm. His paintings also explore the patterning, colors and geometrics found in nature. His art also examines spatial relationships and comparisons to stylized depictions of nature from various cultures.
Described by the late Jack Seilheimer, former Dean of Science at CSU-Pueblo, “He’s really a distinguished field ornithologist. He is truly both scientist and artist.” Radeaux has provided illustrations for a variety of publications including all the illustrations for the landmark Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas 1 and the recently published Atlas 2.
