My interests lie with the individual’s story, especially what is unseen, or “metaphysical”. This carries through from my childhood drawings of fairies and imaginary beings, nurtured by my mother’s passion for art. A free spirit, I have never labeled myself, but rather tried what came across my path. So, my journey in professional art has been a convoluted one. For the past fifteen years, I have discovered teaching to be a part of my path that is the right combination of expertise and compassionate service. These themes have danced in tandem throughout my career.
My initial formal training was at the School of Fine Art at Boston University, where I received a solid foundation of classical training. Succeeding that, I specialized in illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, which launched my sixteen year career in greeting card illustration for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City and later, for Current Inc. in Colorado Springs. During this time, I discovered pastels, enjoying many commissioned portraits. My passion for the mysterious surfaced again during my years as a caregiver for hospice patients using art as an access to their deeper feelings. At the time I wrote, illustrated and published a workbook for writing one’s life legacy, and also conducted workshops in spontaneous artistic expression.
The themes of art as a tool for communicating representations of beauty, ideas, stories, and as a language of feelings, all culminate in defining art as a powerful access to knowledge of the soul. I am continually reaching for my own self- awareness with art.
