Patrick Kochanasz is a native of Eastern Pennsylvania. After studying at the Baum School of art in Allentown, PA, he moved to Colorado in 2011. He quickly fell in love with hiking, camping and backpacking across the West’s vast and limitless terrains.
His paintings attempt to capture his relentless, wandering observations from the trail. While distinctly inspired by the American West, his work is not meant to represent a specific set of geographic coordinates. They are the imaginative embodiment of a constant interest and profound fascination in the impressions that nature leaves him with.
His works are heavily influenced by the traditional Japanese woodblock art form, ukiyo-e, and draw additional inspiration from digital and animated art forms such as visual development and concept design. His meticulous rendering and unique edge treatment gives his work a distinct and often whimsical feel.
