Knowing I was drawn to my creative side, I studied graphic design in college and pursued a career in corporate marketing. Afterwards, I began caregiving for my mother during her struggle with dementia. During this time, I was fortunate enough to run a watercolor art therapy program for the Alzheimer’s Assoc. in the Pikes Peak region. It was such a rewarding experience!
After the therapy program ended due to Covid, I tossed in my brushes and jumped back into the immediacy of pastels. I absolutely love the intense colors soft pastels provide with just a stroke. My painting subjects started with pet portraits, then progressed to Colorado wildlife and western landscapes to most recently, abstracts. I’m hopeful my skills and techniques are improving and becoming looser, more painterly. Ever fond of challenges, I believe wholeheartedly that “life stops when you stop learning,” so who knows what’s next.
